Retirement 2025: Costa Rica

As you may not be aware, tomorrow is my last day with The Walt Disney Company. I was affected by the recent job cuts. The current state of the world also affected me. Still, I have zero ill feelings—none at all.

I remember telling my daughters, Isabella and Miranda. I said that if I took this Disney job, I’d earn a lifetime pass to the parks after 10 years. This was 10 years and 3 months ago. At my age, that was basically a lifetime achievement! They cheered me on every year as I jokingly told them, “Ain’t no way.” I was doing it for them.

Flash forward: During one of our conversations, Steve Helper advised me to save when I relocated to Florida. My response? “Why do you think I moved here, Steve?” (Mr. Helper had a knack for well-placed commas and advice!).

Well, here I am — 10 years, 2 months, and 2 weeks later. My plan is to soft launch retirement and stop stressing about employment. I might land another role next year, or I might not; it’s no longer a priority. My daughter Isabella recently had successful double lung transplant surgery. This was due to a chronic illness called Scleroderma. My 92 year-old mother dished out amazing genes. Good old me is also one of my focus points moving forward.

Usually, when someone leaves, colleagues wish them “best of luck.” Still, in this case, I want to sincerely wish all of you the very best of luck!

You can find me impacting lives on Instagram if you want to follow my next chapter. You can find me at @mortimrtv. I am a creative and a musician who just happened to study Economics. Definitely not LinkedIn.
